The beautiful Clare Valley in South Australia is renown for its panoramic rolling hills, warm days and cool nights, wide variety of winemakers, and a lovely selection of red and white wines which are exported around the world.

One such company is Taylors Wines based in Auburn, and three generations of winemakers have allowed this company to develop its own unique place in the world of wines. Today we were pleased to taste their 2013 Merlot, and we were not to be disappointed.

Though still young, this dry red is bright and fresh while being soft and full of fruit. Upon opening the screw cap we were given aromas of rich blackberries, while the taste was pleasant and reminiscent of dark chocolate and berries.

We would confidently cellar this wine for another few years to see how it develops, though it is still a nice wine to share with friends around a meal today. Merlot has that lovely distinction in our opinion of being just as nice with chicken as it is with steak, a variety of Italian dishes, or a number of cheeses.

We would be happy to recommend this wine, whether to drink now or in three years time.

Score: 4 out of 5.

Living each adventure,
