One of the great joys in running a lifestyle website and social media channel is being able to regularly taste and review fine wine, beer and spirits.
And this week was no different. We finally got the opportunity to sit down with friends and open a bottle of Black Douglas Premium Scotch Whisky. And yes, that’s whisky without an ‘e’ (whiskey) due to it coming out of Scotland.
Named after one of Scotland’s great knights, this whisky is popular in Australia as an easy-to-drink spirit which can be enjoyed year-round. Our first taste confirmed what we had been expecting: that it is pretty much on par with a Johnnie Walker Red.
Both price-wise and in taste we found the Black Douglas to be aimed at the lower end of the scotch price market, but still with a pleasant taste and clean finish. Friends tell us that they prefer using this whisky as a long cool summer drink with coke or other mixer, and having tried it we would tend to agree.
Our overall feeling was that this drink would still be fine with friends around an easy meal or as mentioned with a mixer. If you were looking to impress, we would probably suggest you pay a little more and get a whisky you know will do the job.
Bye for noo!
