While not being the full-bodied spicy Shiraz we are accustomed to from South Australia, this 2014 offering from the cellar of Wolf Blass is still a pleasant wine to enjoy, and may yet improve with age. It does have the recognisable traits of dark fruit, chocolate and pepper with a smooth oak finish, and is an Aussie dry red that would find a place on any dinner table or as a pleasant afternoon drink with friends.
Priced under AUD$15 in a case of six, the Langhorne Creek wine growing region can be sure that this Shiraz will still be popular with many wine drinkers around Australia and overseas. I would definitely consider buying more than one bottle so an aged comparison can be tried in a year or two.
Being a full-bodied Aussie red, we enjoy it immensely with roast beef, a hearty beef casserole, game meats such as kangaroo and venison, and a hard cheese such as Cheddar or a more creamy Camembert if you so prefer. You can try it with lamb but we generally find a Cab Sav a better match.
