If you are a parent or grandparent, you have probably wished at one time or another that you could go back and do it better or differently than you did. Well, keep reading because we want to hear about that one thing you would do differently if you had your time again as a new parent?
Having raised three adult children we often reflect back upon the things we did as parents that we do so differently now as grandparents. And we don’t think we are alone either. Having talked to many parents over the years, we have heard the same words spoken over and over again. “If only I could go back and do it differently (or better/smarter, etc).
If you could go back and do it again, would you:
- spend more time with your children and less time worrying about the state of the house?
- have more bonding time and less shouting time?
- stop living your life by the clock (dinner time/bedtime, etc) and spend quality time reading and playing with the kids?
- have less emphasis on homework and more on teaching them the important things in life?
- discipline less and hug more?
- run after them less and run with them instead?
- focus on the big issues instead of the mud on the carpet?
Each of us is different and we are sure 100 people could probably come up with 100 things they would do differently a second time around. But what is it that YOU would do better if you had a second chance at being a parent? What ONE thing would be your main focus that you would make sure you did better than last time?
Will you drop us a comment below and let us know?
We would love to collate all the answers and see what stands out as being REALLY important – so important in fact that we would all love to correct ourselves if we could go back to that first moment of childbirth with the knowledge we have now. Please, let us know what you think you would do better or different below.
