This week’s photography and DigitalArt image is a reminder that while we may not all be able to travel around the world at will, there is a wealth of travel stories and literature at our fingertips. All we need do is turn the page and jump right in. So keep reading to find out how we compiled this week’s Digital Art image for you.
We started off wanting to place a few animals ‘in’ the book to give the image its focal point, and so rather than create separate images, we opened a large book and placed two small plastic toys on the open pages. We took the photo outdoors hoping the sun would provide some drop shadows of the rhino and zebra on the pages, but our luck was out and it would not come out from behind the clouds. No matter.
We took the photos anyway and then popped the image into Adobe Photoshop to remove the book and animals onto its own layer. We added a watercolour background and some grass behind the book and used a brush to create some slight shadow effect on the pages from the animals.
Each of the other animals were then added and moved around until they looked right. Likewise with the vintage aircraft, trees, branches and birds. A number of textures were added to the background before a final image of a vintage map was placed on top of them.
Finally the text was added to the bottom right and a vignette and grunge border added around the outside. The end result was an image typifying a scene from an overseas holiday or travel diary some of the African animals were standing on the pages of the book.
We hope you like our DigitalArt travel image, and would love to know your thoughts on this type of photography and post processing if you would be so kind as to leave a comment below for us.
