Eat well - lose weight

Is it really that simple? Can you eat well and lose weight? Well, keep reading to find out!

Having spent a lifetime juggling health and weight issues, the one truth we have come to accept is this: If we eat well, we will be able to lose, or maintain our weight.

And by that, we don’t mean eating whatever you want, however much you want, when you want. It is about accepting the important role that YOU play in eating wholesome and nutritious food.

In fact, we have found that even in the times of poor health and little exercise, we were still able to maintain our weight by being careful about what processed food we bought, and making more of our own that was better for us.

Over the last few years, we have shared a number of recipes like the banana muffins above, that can be far healthier for you than buying similar muffins from the shop. In this case we used a cheap recipe from the shop and added our own ingredients, but as you check through our recipes, you will see that many are made from scratch, with whatever healthy ingredients we have in the cupboard. 

The most important decision we made was to reduce the amount of processed food we bought each week. Once we stopped buying junk, then we could focus on buying quality ingredients and whole foods which we could eat or make into healthier foods. We often make a batch of protein balls or nut slices on a weekend and keep them in airtight containers in the fridge to enjoy during the week. We now love our garden salads, fresh vegetables, and homemade casseroles, that again are better for us than many frozen foods found in the supermarket.

We have found, at least in our case that it IS possible to eat well and lose weight. Better understanding different foods are ‘our’ real weight loss secrets that work, And perhaps we can encourage you to chat to your health provider to see whether you can too!

You can do it, just as we have. It just takes a decision to get you started, a willingness to read food labels, and some willpower to keep at it.
