There are some days when you think you are the worst parent in the world, and everything just seems like damn hard work. And then there are the other beautiful, funny, gorgeous days when you wouldn’t want anything to change in the world.
As grandparents, we love to look back on those times when our children were little, only now realising how precious even those tough times were.
We remember hanging out with friends when we were younger and our kids were little. Our friends at the time were yet to start a family, and as much as we loved them, it was very apparent that they had no idea about what it meant to have kids.
No idea at all.
It was only when we got home that day that my wife and I got around to discussing how having kids had changed our life in so many ways.
Every day we were experiencing things that a couple without children could not even begin to appreciate.
- putting our little girl down for a midday sleep, only to later open the door and see her covered from head to toe in baby powder, looking like Casper The Ghost
- taking our children to school, and my son announcing after we had been driving for 15 minutes that he had left his shoes at home
- trying to get somewhere on time and failing hopelessly, as we tried to get three small kids and what seemed like a truckload of ‘things we might need’ into our small car
- waking up suddenly in the middle of the night to see the face of one of our children just inches away from my face – in the dark – saying absolutely nothing!
For those parents who have been there, and for those couples thinking of starting a family, this classically funny video is for you.
