Five Reasons Why You Should Learn To Use Photoshop In Your Photography

Whether you have been taking photos for years, or are still learning the craft, we would like you to consider learning and using Adobe Photoshop as a part of your regular photography ‘toolkit’. We know some people are scared of it, while others do not like to alter their photos from how they were taken ‘in camera.’

However, please hear us out today and perhaps you might just reconsider.

Digital Art

One of the great things we love about Photoshop is the ability to create your own individual art. Yes, we know there are any number of photo apps available out there to choose from. Some are free while the better ones require some payment.

However, we have found that each of these has some limitations, and in the end, do you really want to be producing something very similar to what others are putting out there by using the same app?

We find that Photoshop allows us the ability to create absolutely individualistic artwork that we know is going to be very different from that being produced by others using ready-to-make photoart apps. Rather than just clicking ready-made sliders and limited colour options, you have complete control over every single brush stroke, colour, and adjustment in Photoshop.

Smart Objects

There is nothing worse than spending hours or days improving the look of a photograph, only to realise at the last moment that some change you made yesterday has adversely affected the quality or look of the image, and it is too late to change it back to the original image.

Within Photoshop you have the ability to create Smart Objects which are layers containing the image’s original content and characteristics, allowing you to be able to work non-destructively and go back at any time and make any changes you like. This can be invaluable when performing dozens or hundreds of edits over many days, and can save a lot of heartache down the track.

Create Your Own Business

How many times have you thought about starting your own business, but always wondered how you could find a business idea which would allow you to create and sell a product that was different, unique and totally saleable?

With Photoshop, you now have the ability to create your own work-from-home business in any number of niches.

You can offer your services editing photos for other photography professionals, provide services directly to the public who would like some truly unique wedding or special occasion photos, as well as creating and selling your own individual artwork.

Once you learn Photoshop and become proficient at it, you could literally have hundreds of clients lining up to utilise your professional services.

Save Time And Become More Efficient In Your Photography Workflow

If you take and process any number of photos, you will always be looking for ways to speed up your workflow and improve the way you can process them faster and more efficiently. Because all Adobe’s products are completely integrated with each other, it won’t be long before you are easily moving your image between Lightroom and Photoshop, or Illustrator and After Effects.

You will find those time-consuming tasks becoming easier and quicker. Editing hundreds or photos that once took for ever are now performed with more precision and control. while keyboard shortcuts become almost second-nature as you speed through your images.
